American punk band formed in Seattle, WA in 1977. J. Satz Baret formed the Lewd after leaving Ze Whiz Kidz (with band member Tomato Du Plenty).
In late 1979, lead singer J. Satz Baret and bassist Blobbo (Kurdt Vanderhoof) moved The Lewd to San Francisco. Former members went on to bands Social Distortion (Chris Reece) and Metal Church (Kurdt Vanderhoof) to name a few. The Kill Yourself 7" is regarded as one of the most influential punk 7"and the title song is on everyones favorite list. The Lewd was credited with bringing Hardcore to the west coast. They still play today with J. Sats leading the band, and Bob Clic ( occasionally plays with the band, American Wino LP) Tony Garay (artist that did the lizard drawings for American Wino artwork) Longtime Drummer Mic Rawls and Rob Vastano on guitar.
