Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Tonight I shall have great pleasure. But first of all, I wish to announce the Spill Academy’s Top Ten films of 2018 (UK release dates)
The results are based on the lists and suggestions posted by various Spillers on my previous post. Points were allocated from ten down to one where lists were posted. For briefer and less list-like posts I used a bit of interpretation. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Before counting down the top three, a brief smattering of applause for the plucky runners-up who narrowly missed the top ten list. Please put your hands together for Shoplifters, Phantom Thread, Widows, Coco, The Happy Prince, A Prayer Before Dawn and Avengers: Infinity War.
So then. At the other end of the scale we have two films, at joint number three in the countdown.
Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri! (2017 USA release but 2018 in UK)
And Roma!
Some way ahead of these at number two – Sorry to Bother You!
And a clear winner. The Spill Awards, Film of the year – Leave No Trace!
Here’s the complete top ten with the points that emerged from computing the various nominations:
Leave No Trace (32)
Sorry to Bother You (26)
Roma (20)
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (20)
You Were Never Really Here (19)
The Shape of Water (18)
Beast (16)
BlacKkKlansman (15)
A Quiet Place (13)
Black Panther (12)
Thanks to all who participated. It has been a truly glamorous and star-studded evening. My frock was designed by Primark and is going back tomorrow. I would like to express my personal thanks and present a special award to Dick Van Dyke for his services to dancing on the tables at the age of 93.
