Good Looking Friends are a three-piece indie rock/emo from Brooklyn, New York that have been around since at least 2016. I first heard this band today, with the release of their debut LP (also out today), Settle In, Decay. I threw this on during my drive home, and holy shit is it impressive. There’s not much I can really say about it, since I’ve only heard it the one time thus far, but it definitely immediately blew me away.
To provide a brief, surface-level description, the band shifts between catchy, pop punk-esque energy and very melancholic, atmospheric build-ups, which hint at some Sigur Ros influence. They kind of remind me TWIABP, if I was trying to compare them to another band, especially with the wide array of instrumentations (strings, keys) and vocal variety, in addition to the standard guitar-bass-drums. There’s not much more to say, except check this out immediately. I am looking forward to many, many more listens of it, and delving into their back catalogue. It’s very rare for an album to hit so hard upon first listen, so I’m really pumped about this and had to share it A$AP. Enjoy.
