So then. Films. Did you see any? Did you like them? Were they released this year? So many questions.
For me it has been an incredible year for cinema. This may be partly due to the fact that I finally bought a membership of my local Curzon and got to see all their films for free but let it pass.
My own top ten has some overlap with the Guardian’s list although, of course, I haven’t seen all the films they have. And didn’t like all the films they liked. UK release dates so some may have been 2017 films in the USA. Any ways. I’ll give you my top ten for what it is worth.
Roma (still available on Netflix!)
Leave No Trace
The Shape of Water
Cold War
Shoplifters
A Quiet Place
The Breadwinner
Isle of Dogs
Lady Bird
A Fantastic Woman
Other contenders (in my world) were……..
Jeune Femme, Summer 1993, They Shall Not Grow Old, The Wife, Black Panther, American Animals, Dogman, Lucky, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Wildlife, Disobedience, First Reformed, Peterloo, Mama Mia! Here I Go Again, Under the Tree.
I still haven’t seen Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Widows, The Square, Coco, The Hate U Give, Sorry to Bother You, Faces Places, You Were Never Really Here or Phantom Thread.
Well, there’s a few reminders. Other films are available. Give us your top ten or however many you want to name. In order would be good. Feel free to include the new Mary Poppins film which I rather liked. Or Hereditary which I didn’t. “That’s enough of your bias” – Ed
