It’s late Sunday evening in Earworm land. The cats are playing tiddly winks with the dog’s biscuits; the rain is dripping down the windows and I’ve realised that I have someone coming to see me tomorrow, “late morning”. When the hell is “late morning”? Why did I make such a stupid arrangement? Will I have time to wash-up / hoover / walk the dog? So many questions … here’s some music to soothe my troubled mind (and yours, I hope). If you have an earworm you’d like to share, please send an .mp3 or link to [email protected], with a short paragraph about why you’ve chosen it, and I’ll feature it here. Many thanks to all contributors.

Shannon Lay – The Moon’s Detriment – AliM: My thanks to Hype Machine for pointing this one up – it’s on repeat at the moment. They say: “The music of Los Angeles songwriter Shannon Lay is gentle and airy, and can “reduce you to a puddle of emotions,” says Stereogum. Her new LP is the debut release on Kevin Morby’s new Woodsist imprint, Mare Records.” Tincanman sent in Kevin Morby’s excellent “Singing Saw” to Earworms a little while ago.

London Grammar – Trials – DsD: I’m sorry, but I can’t find anything to say that does this justice. My current repeat1/repeat1/repeat1 obsession. I’m doing it now, when I really MUST go to bed. P.S. However long it is since I emailed, I’m still here with it on Repeat1: THAT’S how hard it is to tear myself away.

Julien Baker – Sprained Ankle – tincanman: Imagine this if you will: You are a devout Christian, you are gay, and you live in the US South. Title track of an album I play a lot despite being none of the above.

Alabama Shakes – You Ain’t Alone – Glassarfemptee: Alabama Shakes really are from Alabama, and with the help of ace vocalist Brittany Howard, they channel Joplin and Whitehouse. This track from their 2012 debut album showcases their extraordinary RnB power.

Agam/ Harish Sivaramakrishnan – Rudra – Ravi Raman: Prog rock with a hint of Carnatic flavour.  Okay maybe more than a hint. They’ve been enjoying a slight re-surge in popularity. From their 2012 album The Inner Self Awakens. (2 others to share if anyone would like me to add to the box).

The Pixies – The Happening – AliM: This is from their 1990 album “Bossanova”, which my friend plays often. The whole album has got under my skin; there’s also a track called “Allison” – what more could I ask. Best LOUD.
