Good morning, I completely forgot to ask for Halloween Earworms this year (is it the end of October already?), but I think we’ve probably done that to death in the past, so here are your songs about spots. Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head … maybe not. Anyway, if you have an Earworm you’d like to share, please send an .mp3 or a link to [email protected], together with a few words about why you’ve chosen it. Next week’s theme will be smells. Autumn bonfires; flatulent dogs; exquisite perfume, fish and chips; fairgrounds; flowers; the salty sea. See what you can sniff out. And Ravi, get well soon.
Joni Mitchell – Big Yellow Taxi – tincanman: She’d rather have spots on her apples than farmers’ spray with chemicals.
Sidney Bechet With Bob Wilber’s Wildcats – Polkadot Stomp – AliM: Just class.
BeauSoleil – One Iota – tincanman: Is it about spots? I don’t speak Cajun so I have no idea. Or even if an iota is a spot in the first place. But it gets me jigging in my seat and that’s good enough for me.
FKA Twigs – Weak Spot – severin: “I heard he’s got a weak spot for you, he’s gonna come running.” From her first EP, about five or six years ago and already pretty startling.
Gymnasium – Psoriasis – AliM: I can’t claim to hear all the lyrics clearly, but I share their frustration. Out, damned spot!!
Basement Jaxx (feat Meshell Ndegeocello) – Right Here’s the Spot – severin: A good place to dance or a sweet spot to touch. It’s right here anyway.
Carl Sagan – Pale Blue Dot: one of the most important thoughts and reflections I’ve heard. Here accompanied by Vangelis. Also another song by Simon Collins with the same name. Apologies for the YouTube links but I am down with swine flu of all the bloody things. Highly restricted use of PC, phone, etc.
