Good evening, here are your songs on the subject of meetings. Joyous; tedious; unfortunate; eagerly anticipated; dreaded and (in our case) virtual. If you have an Earworm you’d like to share, please send an .mp3 or a link to [email protected], together with a few words about why you’ve chosen it. Next week’s theme will be days of the week (any day you like). Many thanks to all contributors.

The National – Secret Meeting – vanwolf: From Alligator – seems a long time ago now!

Todd Snider – Long Year – tincanman: Todd goes to an AA meeting to no great effect.

Lindisfarne – Meet Me On The Corner – AliM: Here’s a blast from the past – 1972, in fact. Dream pedlars R us.

Squirrel Nut Zippers – The Ghost of Stephen Foster – Ravi Raman: An earworm and a quirky band name! Their salute to an 1840s songwriter. There is a video too, their nod to the animation of the ’30s and ’40s.

Unwound – Treachery – vanwolf: “Now you want to know why his coat was ripped to shreds?
His girl found an address book and this is what it said / “Meet me at the entrance and don’t forget your play””. Epic album.

Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name – tincanman: Ting Tings are a Manchester pop duo (admittedly rather annoying to some) consisting of Katie White and Jules De Martino. White was frustrated that in meetings all the male music industry sorts deferred to De Martino and kept getting her name wrong, if they spoke to her at all.

Macy Gray – I Can’t Wait to Meetchu – AliM: From her 1999 album, On How Life Is. Self-explanatory, I think.

Dent May – Meet Me In The Garden – glassarfemptee: I know nothing about Dent May, but SXSW in Austin, Texas each year is a rich source of talent spotting, a bit like a giant version of The Great Escape in Brighton. I picked this one up in 2009, and it meets the requirements!

Ry Cooder – Jesus and Woody – Ravi Raman: two dreamers meeting up in Heaven (I guess). From Cooder’s latest album The Prodigal Son, an excellent mix of covers and originals.

Fairground Attraction – Allelujah – severin: More a song about being trapped really. Or a song about escape. Or a song about falling for a stranger. But she does say “meet me on the corner at eight” so that’s ok. And I think it’s still my favourite of all their songs.

Mary Coughlan – Meet Me Where They Play the Blues – severin: There are plenty of versions of this song. This is the one I heard first so in my mind it’s “the” one. And as I may have said before (ad nauseam) Mary’s voice is something I can’t resist. She could sing anything as far as I’m concerned.
