Is coming out to one person really coming out? Or are you just inviting them into the closet with you? In this episode we’ll answer a listener question on the difficulties of only being out to some, but not all, the people in your life. Our listener asks “When I came out it was a huge strain on my relationship with my mother. Both my father and sister separately told me that one of the things that was a strain on my mom was the fact I wasn’t coming out to everyone, but it was put on everyone else to tell people (or not). This was a big emotional and mental burden for her she didn’t want to carry it. When you come out to someone you are there and somewhat prepared for the questions but are your friends family ready to answer questions? Because if they aren’t ready to handle it what happens when the person who just learned this has to process all this emotionally in a bubble?”
