Where are you from?
Metro Detroit transplants currently residing in Ferndale and Grosse Pointe Park.
When did you start DJing?
We first DJed together for the Girls Rock fundraiser last summer.
Can you describe your style?
Whatever our mood or theme is— a warm sunny day at the beach, a 50s slow dance at the sockhop, a sweaty disco on a linoleum floor, a blur of champagne. We DJ together—one track for one track—which is great for feeding off of each other. It’s a fun challenge to quickly dig in your collection to find something to match after your partner randomly drops Sade.
Tell us about your first show.
We played a benefit for Girls Rock—which is an organization dedicated to fostering girls’ creative growth though a music camp. We played all female driven records. GIRLS RULE, BOYS DROOL!
Gear talk! Tell us about your set up.
1950s stereo console, travel suitcase turntable, technic 1200s, Allen & Heath mixer…whatever headphones are laying around.
What bands, musicians, performers, DJs (or other things) are your influences/inspiration?
Richie Wohlfiel — our dance floor mentor
Do you have any special rituals to prepare for a show?
Pick a theme! We like to identify a mood we want to set wherever we are playing, and then sift through our collection/ go record shopping together. It’s really easy to just play soul 45s back to back, but we like to stretch our limits and find a way to play that weird 7 minute long Lebanese disco song or sweet little Calypso ballad.
Does your gender identity/presentation influence your music? Has it presented any issues for you?
We love a good girl group (Go Suzi Quatro!) and love playing Seraphine Collective functions.
What do you think about Detroit’s music scene? Who are your favorite Detroit bands/performers/DJs?
Ash & Jon/Haute to Death
Turn to Crime
Slumber Party
The Drinkard Sisters
What is your favorite song right now?
ESG- “You’re No Good”, or Los Saicos – “Ana”, The Aquatones “You”
What is your favorite way to unwind?
In the sun, near a body of water.
What do you want everyone to know about you and your shows?
We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We don’t really consider ourselves “DJs”…just two friends who love records and the occasional opportunity to share our collection with other people.
