Where are you from?
Born and raised in Detroit, with an 8 year stint in Brooklyn in my 20’s.
When did you start DJing?
How did you decide on your DJ moniker?
I started DJing shortly after a trip to Peru, and a bunch of my friends were sitting around trying to help me come up with a DJ name. We were talking about the trip and one of them joked that probably the only thing I knew how to do in Spanish was to order another drink at the bar. He was right. It stuck.
Can you describe your style?
Kind of all over the place. Heavy into hip-hop & R&B, but I play some Brazilian, Afrobeat and jazz stuff too. Pretty much whatever I’m feeling that day.
Tell us about your first show.
I was terrified. It was at Nothing Elegant. After a ten-minute tutorial before we started, I forgot everything and completely fucked up every time Amy or Sara would walk away, but they were insanely patient and didn’t kill me or kick me out and I finally, by some small miracle, timed something right and dropped a total banger at the right moment and people freaked out and i was hooked.
Gear talk! Tell us about your set up.
I have a couple of Technics SL-1200M3D’s, an Allen & Heath Xone:23 mixer and use Serato also.
What is your favorite song right now?
Mannnn that’s tough. Umm there’s this song No Balanço Da Canoa by Maga Bo. It’s Brazilian and has a super sexy beat. Then there’s Kendrick Lamar, Alright or Erykah Badu, Phone Down. Three-way tie?
What is your favorite way to unwind?
Hang with my friends, have a couple beers, shoot pool and talk a bunch of shit.
