Here’s another batch of new songs for your enjoyment – feel free to comment below. My faves this week are James Yuill, Warbly Jets and The Captain’s Son. What do you think? Many thanks to all contributors.

SEASIDE HIGHLIFE AND THE YUM YUMS – Sideways: “Sideways is the first of many tracks by SEASIDE HIGHLIFE. SSHL is Australian singer songwriter Mat McHugh, and Berlin’s production quartet The YUM YUM’s. Sideways doesn’t pretend to be more than it is: A fun filled electronic funk track made for the best time of the year! Brought to you by 5 guys who all originally grew up by the beach”.

Island Apollo – Feeling You: “New single from SoCal indie rock band Island Apollo just released via Huffington Post. The band has received tremendous exposure being featured on Vh1, CBS, Fox Sports and numerous national ads including Sprint and Sobe. Their new infectious single is produced by Eric Lilavois (Saint Motel, Atlas Genius) and features driving drums, layered vocals, upbeat guitar and synth bass riffs.”

James Yuill – Fire Breathing: “Electro-folk artist James Yuill’s first new music since 2013. His new single Fire Breathing is a slow building, thumping track, taken from his upcoming album A Change In State out 28th July. Best known for his one-man, electro-folk shows, Yuill has toured around the world alongside Phoenix, Hot Chip, Royksopp and M83, to name a few. James’ music has been featured on Gray’s Anatomy, Scrubs, One Tree Hill, The Inbetweeners and Pretty Little Liars. He also wrote the music and starred in his own Guinness Christmas advert.”

The High Crook – Do Me: New single from The High Crook, “a blues/rock band from Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), the capital of India’s West Bengal state. They formed in late 2013, channeling a love for blues, pop, and rock ‘n’ roll. With an experience of over a hundred gigs, the trio shows their ample energy on new single, “Do Me”. “It’s a track which reflects how the socio-cultural and the political economy of a state affects the lifestyles of individuals at a micro level,” the band explains.”

Warbley Jets – The Lowdown: “LA’s Warbly Jets have been building buzz locally and nationally since the release of their debut single last November… (This is) their second single, “The Lowdown.” A snarling anthem meant to call out the music industry and its endless games, it’s the band’s way of saying that they’re here, and they’re here to stay.” Currently on tour in China, USA and the UK (London; The Shacklewell Arms, September).

The Captain’s Son – Burned Out Early: Previously featured in Sounds on Sunday 14, The Captain’s Son recently released this track, which is going onto their next EP. They say: “This particular song is more laid-back/chill then gets crazier at the end with kinda psychedelic and big guitars – different than some of our mostly indie-pop/rock stuff.” Watch out for the EP release in August.

Guest Actors – When Everything Ends: “The track comes from their forthcoming full-length debut, ‘Under Those Silent Skies’, set to be released on October 10th. Guest Actors is an Israeli indie-rock band based in Tel Aviv. The band formed in 2015 by lead vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Avi Ilani, along with drummer Shaked Yaakov, bassist Yoni Talias, and lead guitarist Matan Wexler, having met as students at Rimon music school. After self-releasing a short EP in 2016, the band went back to the studio for another year of writing and production, this time working out their debut album, ‘Under Those Silent Skies’.”

Instant Empire – Slow to Reveal: New single from Instant Empire, a rock group from Denver that formed nearly eight years ago. “Since then, they have released three EPs and a couple LPs, the most recent of which – ‘Last of the Lovers’ – will be released this August. The five-piece crafted the album with a concept centering around “the relentless march of time … consumed with finding grace and beauty in life’s tiny moments.”

James Wyatt Crosby – Pray On It: This is the 2nd single from JWC’s upcoming album “Twins” which will be out September 15 on Maisonneuve Music. “In January 2017, Crosby left his band Garbagio to pursue his long-held aspirations of completing a full-length album … (This) song originally evolved from a sample of an old piece of medieval choral music. “The sampled track was in Italian, but to me, the sample sounded like the words ‘Pray On It’ so the lyrics in the verses came from that. As far as the lyrics go, I think it was me basically talking to myself and trying to pump myself up and give myself an empowering message,” explains Crosby.”

Hyphen X Hunter – 4 Hours: “Releasing on 30 July, “4 Hours” is an intense hip-hop collaboration between Hyphen and Hunter, two London-based artists … “Hunter and I have a similar unconventionality – we’re both guys who you wouldn’t guess rap – so I suppose it’s no wonder when we got into the studio things clicked,” Hyphen explains. “Taking inspiration from projects like ‘Watch the Throne’ and collaborations between Wretch 32 and Devlin, we wanted to make a song that reflected the energy and passion for music, and trying to showcase our different skill sets.”

Fellini Félin – Come To The Fore: From Délicieuse records, “Fellini Félin’s new track “Come To The Fore” from his next EP “Temporary Fiction”, 3 years after his last one “Wisteria”.”

Roberto Horns – Hostage:Roberto Horns has been writing/producing songs for over 10 years. He grew up playing trumpet (hence the Horns surname) and over the years has worked with some of the industry’s best producers (Tricky Stewart, Polow Da Don, JR Rotem, NO I.D.). He plays all the instruments, writes all the songs and makes all the videos himself — including the .. video for new track “Hostage”. He decided to start releasing his own records about two years ago. “‘Hostage’ is a song for all of us that get trapped in the friend zone and can’t seem to escape,” Roberto explains. “It’s a fun video that gives a glimpse of what dating might be like in the future.””

Nick Heyward – Baby Blue Sky: “Taken from his new album Woodland Echoes’, out on 4th August – defined a “sublime” by Classic Pop – the video was shot and edited by Nick himself and gives us a snapshot of his life in Key West, where he recorded much of the album. Trained as a commercial artist, Nick’s eye for framing an image captured the aesthetic behind the artworks.” (Yes, it is THAT Nick Heyward).
