Notes:

  • A mild upset with Rocky Romero cheating to steal a pin on Matt Sydal. I would have figured the team with Elgin on it would beat the team with YOSHI-HASHI.
  • A ten man tag team match with randomly assigned teams is very hard to keep track of. Both teams had a nice mix of regulars and perennial losers; I liked not knowing who would win.
  • After the match, Nagata & Shibata continued their beef with a pull-apart brawl.
  • Is there anyone who enjoys their job more than Kenny Omega? He does all these dastardly deeds but you can’t help but like him as he can barely contain his smile. He also goes out of his way to “too sweet” with everyone in the audience he can reach which is, uh, too sweet.
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi has been replaced on the tour by Satoshi Kojima. They both have nice pecs but it’s not quite the same level of star power. The Ace is busy healing up for his big upcoming ladder match.
  • Funny moment when the announcer Naito antagonizes walked to the back to get away but Naito followed him briefly. Naito tried to get KUSHIDA, who was sitting in on commentary, to hold the ropes for him but the Jr. Heavyweight champ wouldn’t budge. More to come?
  • B Block became the jumbled up mess I was expecting out of A Block last time. All the undefeated wrestlers lost and all the winless got on the board. Everyone in B is either 2-1 or 1-2. Fun.
  • Chase Owens is now 0-2 since recruiting Takahashi to “help.”
  • Owens telling the crowd to move out of the way and then tossing Tiger back into the ring instead was a funny moment and, honestly, it was the first time I’ve been entertained by Chase.
  • Once again Liger was totally fine. So far he’s been helped to the back after wins and walked away under his own power after a loss. Weird!
  • Will Ospreay and Ricochet was as glorious as anticipated. It’s not even high flying. It’s more like combat gymnastics. It was a spotfest, because of course it was, but the match told a story too. It was a battle of who could hold their temper in check as they dealt with the unheard of prospect of someone being able to keep up with them move for move. Ricochet, clearly feeling threatened by the youngster trying to take his spot, was the first to break out the crazy moves as well as the first to throw a punch. He even resorted to spitting. He was less in control of his emotions and it ended up costing him in the end. Great match.
  • The NJPW crowd has been watching some American wrestling, it seems. This was the first time I’ve ever heard them chant “This is awesome!” and “Holy shit!” The match deserved it.
